Dr. Krakowsky clears up acne myths for his Toronto acne patients and for his online visitors:
Myth No. 1 Acne is caused by poor hygiene
If you accept this myth, and wash your skin roughly and often, you can make your acne worse. Soil or surface skin oils do not cause acne. Even if excess oils, dead skin, and a day's worth of dust on the skin (easy to acquire in Toronto!) looks unpleasant, these shouldn’t be removed by scrubbing. Rough washing and scrubbing will irritate the skin and make your acne worse. The better approach to hygiene and acne is to gently wash your face twice a day with a mild soap, pat dry--and then use the treatment that Dr. Krakowsky has recommended.
Myth No. 2 Acne is just a cosmetic disease
Yes, acne affects the way people look, yet is not otherwise a serious threat to a person’s physical health. Still, acne can result in permanent physical scars--plus, acne can affect the way people feel about themselves to the point of affecting their self-image and critical decisions.
Myth No. 3: Acne must just be allowed to run its course
The truth is, acne can be cleared up. If the acne treatments you’ve tried haven’t worked yet, please call Dr. Krakowsky’s Toronto acne clinic and as for a consultation. With the products available to you currently, there is no reason to believe that you must endure acne or acquire acne scars.
