TORONTO BOTOX® FOR HYPERHIDROSIS
Excessive sweating that is not caused by physical exertion is known as hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is characterized by localized, often symmetrical, sweating generally occurring in palms, feet, and underarms. Botox® Therapeutic injections for treatment of hyperhidrosis was approved by Health Canada in 2001.
Unlike topical treatments and other remedies, which treat the condition after the sweating has occurred, Botox® will treat the underlying cause of sweating. Botox® Therapeutic works to alleviate hyperhidrosis by blocking the release of a chemical which triggers the sweat glands.
TORONTO HYPERHIDROSIS TREATMENT
Prior to your Botox® hyperhidrosis treatment in Toronto a starch/iodine test may be performed in order to isolate the area of maximum sweat gland activity. Botox® is then injected just under the skin to block the release of the substance that activate the sweat glands. Any discomfort is usually minimal and will be alleviated by the use of various local anesthetic techniques as instructed by Dr Krakowsky.
Effects of Botox® for hyperhidrosis typically last up to 8 months.
It should be noted that Botox® hyperhidrosis treatments are partly covered by most private insurance plans.
TYPES OF HYPERHIDROSIS
- Primary Hyperhidrosis - characterized by localized sweating in feet, underarms, and palms. This type of hyperhidrosis is caused by over-production of the substance that activates sweat glands.
- Secondary Hyperhidrosis – characterized by sweating affecting the entire body. This type of hyperhidrosis is caused by secondary triggers such as menopause, metabolic disorders, or neurological disorders.
Dr Krakowsky has performed many Botox hyperhidrosis treatmetns for his Toronto hyperhidrosis patients.
