Acne Clinic Serving Toronto, North York, Scarborough and Oakville
Acne is classified based on type and severity. If you are considering medical treatment options for your acne, it is important to seek a physician who is experienced in treatment of acne. Many Toronto acne patients are referred to our Toronto acne clinic by other satisfied patients because Dr Krakowsky's practice focuses on treatment of acne.
Types of AcneComedo AcneThis type of acne is formed when a follicle becomes blocked with sebum, dead skin cells, fine hairs, and bacteria. An open comedo is commonly called a blackhead. A closed comedo is commonly called a whitehead. It is important to note that neither blackheads nor whiteheads should be squeezed or picked. Extraction should only be performed by a physician under sterile conditions. Otherwise, the follicle can become further inflamed or infected and lead to more severe types of acne.Papule AcneThis kind of acne consists of small bumps that are slightly raised on the surface of the skin. Papule Acne is considered to be a more severe case than comedo acne.Pustule AcneLeft untreated papule acne can lead to a more advanced case of acne known as pustule acne. Pustule acne contains pus consisting of trapped skin cells and bacteria.Nodule AcneA large inflamed papule is known as nodule acne. This type of acne can often become painful and can lead to acne scarring.Cystic AcneCystic acne is the most sever type of acne with the largest lesions that can extend deeper into the skin that other types of acne. Cystic acne is often very painful and commonly leads to acne scarring. |
